Some days you just want lunch that’s easy, but actually good.
That day, I headed to IKI Ramen + Sushi in Koreatown.
Tucked into a small plaza, it opens up into a surprisingly calm, cozy Japanese spot.
Ramen, sushi, sashimi, rice bowls — easy to enjoy whether you’re solo or with one friend.

Great when you want a light-but-proper lunch. A little snug if you’re after a big, lively room.
A small Japanese spot in a plaza — calm and cozy
IKI Ramen + Sushi sits in a small plaza on Western Ave in Koreatown. (There’s a second location on Sunset in Hollywood, too.)
From the outside it’s an ordinary strip mall, but the mood shifts the moment you step in. There aren’t many seats, which keeps it calm, and at lunch we were seated quickly.
Ramen and sushi under one roof — plus sake, hand rolls, and omakase — so it’s fun just to browse the menu.
What I'd recommend most: the ramen
I tried a few things, but the ramen is what I’d recommend first.
The tonkotsu broth is rich without being heavy, and the chashu melts in your mouth. As a midday meal, it’s more than satisfying.
For something a little special, there’s the **A5 Wagyu ramen** — thin slices of wagyu just barely cooked in the hot broth. A different kind of treat from your usual bowl.
Sushi and sashimi are lovely to share
The ramen alone is great, but with a friend it’s nice to add some sushi or sashimi to share.
The nigiri is fresh, with a nice balance of fish and rice.
The lightly seared tuna tataki is fragrant, and fun to enjoy one slice at a time.
A feast for the eyes, and an easy start
The seafood rice bowl — toro, uni, and ikura heaped over rice — lifts your mood just to look at. One bowl, and lunch feels luxurious.
tart light with a bite of crispy rice and spicy tuna. Simple sides like edamame are easy add-ons, too.
What I loved, and what's worth knowing
I loved how well-made the ramen was, the freshness of the fish, and the calm room that’s easy to talk in. It’s a really nice place for a light, proper lunch.
That said, there aren’t many seats, so it can fill up at mealtimes. As a place using premium ingredients, prices run a touch above your corner ramen shop — but given the quality, it feels fair.
A few things worth knowing before you go
– Go early for lunch. It’s snug, so it fills up; a little early means a calmer table.
– Parking is the shared plaza lot.
– Light vs. filling: Solo, one bowl of ramen is plenty; with two, ramen plus shared sushi/sashimi is a fuller spread.
– Cocktails are only at the Sunset (Hollywood) location.** Koreatown focuses on sake, beer, and wine.

It started as a simple lunch, but one warm bowl of broth slowed my whole afternoon down.
A meal doesn’t have to be grand to be good — sometimes a proper bowl is exactly what makes the day feel kind.
Tell me your own Koreatown lunch go-to in the comments. I’ll be back with another neighborhood find soon.
